Start with the current rules
Open the identified NYT Wordle destination and read the instructions for the current puzzle. Wordle's familiar format asks you to solve a five-letter word within six guesses, with feedback after each attempt. Account and archive options belong to NYT; this guide does not promise unrestricted access to every feature.
Separate certainty from possibility
Keep confirmed positions distinct from letters that still need a home. Before entering a word, compare it with the full set of clues rather than only the most recent row. A candidate that feels familiar still has to fit.
When several candidates remain, think about what your next guess could clarify. Will it test a meaningful difference, or repeat information you already have? There is no need to chase a universal opening word to practise this habit.
A short first-session routine
- Read the feedback key before your first guess.
- After each attempt, restate the confirmed clues.
- Check the spelling and all known positions of a candidate.
- Be willing to discard your favourite idea when a clue contradicts it.
- Review one overlooked clue after finishing, without looking for a perfect score.
Keep the daily boundary
A solved word and an unsolved word both provide a natural ending. If you share a result, keep the answer hidden so someone else can enjoy the puzzle. Close the tab when you are finished; a streak or an archive is an option, not an obligation.
